A prayer for our nation's election

Lord God, as the election approaches,
we seek to better understand the issues and concerns
that confront our city and country,
and how the Gospel compels us to respond
as faithful citizens in our community.

We ask for eyes free from blindness
so that we might see each other as brothers and sisters,
one and equal in dignity,
especially those who are victims
of abuse and violence, deceit and poverty.

We ask for ears that will hear
the cries of children unborn and those abandoned,
men and women oppressed because of race or creed,
religion or gender.

We ask for minds and hearts
open to hearing the voices of leaders
whose work brings us closer to your reign of peace.

We pray for your Spirit to guide our discernment
that we may chose leaders
who hear the wisdom in your Word,
live your love, and keep in the ways of your truth.

Help us to follow in the steps of Jesus and his apostles and
come to the Kingdom he has promised.

The Attitude of the Right Leader

Lord, if your people need me, I will not refuse the work. Your will be done.
- St. Martin de Tours

Another very inspiring quote for me.  A quote one leader should take it in heart. The right leader should be like St. Martin de Tours asking the Lord "if your people need me, I will not refuse the work."  Not for self but people's interest and not for self will but GOD's will.

As a father of the family, I'm very much inspired by St. Martin de Tours.

May the right leader wins this coming National Elections.

Skill versus Attitude

SKILL

A skill is the learned capacity to carry out pre-determined results often with the minimum outlay of time, energy, or both. Skills can often be divided into domain-general and domain-specific skills. For example, in the domain of work, some general skills would include time management, teamwork  and leadership, self motivation and others, whereas domain-specific skills would be useful only for a certain job. Skill usually requires certain environmental stimuli and situations to assess the level of skill being shown and used.

People need a broad range of skills in order to contribute to a modern economy and take their place in the technological society of the twenty-first century. An ASTD study showed that through technology, the workplace is changing, and so are the skills that employees must have to be able to change with it.

ATTITUDE

An attitude is a hypothetical construct that represents an individual's degree of like or dislike for an item. Attitudes are generally positive or negative views of a person, place, thing, or event-- this is often referred to as the attitude object. People can also be conflicted or ambivalent toward an object, meaning that they simultaneously possess both positive and negative attitudes toward the item in question.

Attitudes are judgments. They develop on the ABC model (affect, behavior, and cognition). The affective response is an emotional response that expresses an individual's degree of preference for an entity. The behavioral intention is a verbal indication or typical behavioral tendency of an individual. The cognitive response is a cognitive evaluation of the entity that constitutes an individual's beliefs about the object. Most attitudes are the result of either direct experience or observational learning from the environment.

Eduardo C. Villanueva (born October 6, 1946), known as Brother Eddie, is a religious and political  leader in the Philippines and a presidential candidate in the 2010 Philippine election as standard bearer of the Bangon Pilipinas Party. Prior to joining the politics, he is best known as the founder and leader of the Jesus Is Lord Church but officially declared his leave of absence as its Spiritual Director during the launching o Bagong Pilipinas Movement on March 28, 2009 “so that [he] may concentrate on the transformation of our beloved nation."

In 2004, he was a presidential candidate in the Philippine election but lost to incumbent Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and placed last in a field of five candidates, with 6.2% of the vote - although many Filipinos believe that the 2004 election in general was a alleged large-scale election fraud, particularly due to the Aragoncillo Project.

On August 21, 2009, he announced that he will be running in the 2010 election and on November 30, 2009, filed his Certificate of Candidacy with the Commission on Elections "accompanied by his running mate, former Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chief Perfecto Yasay, and five senatorial bets".

Joseph "Erap" Estrada (born Jose Marcelo Ejercito on April 19, 1937) was the 13th President of the Philippines, serving from 1998 until his ouster in the 2001 EDSA Revolution.

Estrada gained popularity as a film actor, playing the lead role in over 100 films in an acting career spanning 33 years. He leveraged his popularity as an actor to make gains in politics, serving as mayor of San Juan for seventeen years, as Senator for one term, then as Vice President of the Philippines under the administration of President Fidel Ramos.

Estrada was elected President in 1998 with a wide margin of votes separating him from the other challengers, and was sworn into the presidency on June 30, 1998. In 2000 he declared an "all-out-war" against the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and captured it's headquarters and other camps. However, allegations of corruption spawned an impeachment trial in the Senate, and in 2001 Estrada was ousted from a power grab after former Chief Justice Hilario Davide allowed the prosecution to walk out of the impeachment court when the Senator Judges voted no in the opening of the second envelope.

In 2007, he was sentenced by a "special court" to reclusion perpetua for plunder, but was later granted pardon by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Character matters more than Skills

I got this quote from my subscription to Bo Sanchez GodWhispers.

I know you know this, but my role is to remind you of how life works. (I know it gets distracting and busy.) Here it is: Knowledge is important, but character is essential.  Skills are crucial, but character is indispensable. Long-term happiness and success can only come from being a person of character.
-GodWhispers, Bo Sanchez

Just in time, this quote reminds us of the essentials of life.

Philippines National election is now at hand. How we should choose for our leaders tomorrow?
